Floyd gave everything he possibly could to boxing, in and out of the gym.
Whether he was fighting Joe Louis or Joe Schmoe, Floyd worked his body to the limit, basically never taking a short cut (as he got old, he still pushed as hard as he could in the gym, even if that meant he was only training 4 or 5 days a week instead of every day).
Beyond that though, Floyd did all the outside of the ring stuff, almost without fail.
Whether it meant stopping in every city and answering the same questions for two hours when on a fight tour, staying as long as possible for fan availabilities, or signing 1000 gloves for the various sponsors on a fight, Floyd bit down and did the work.
He played heel for most of his star run (he basically stopped the schtick after the Guerrero fight, brought it back a bit for Canelo), but he was heel more like Ric Flair was heel (an obvious heel to the kid who starts watching, but seeing a guy, year in and year out, for 20 years, touring the country 300 dates a year, making whatever local star look like an utter world-beater, as he barely sneaks over to the next town, gets you to respect the job he's doing).
Floyd set the example
