Peterson was a mandatory for Thurman. He probably wasn't going to get that shot for a while, obviously. Spence wasn't able to get Porter or Garcia in the ring, and Peterson gets his title shot. That's how and why this fight got made. Credit to Lamont for stepping up, when he could've just waited a year and a half for Thurman.
