I don't think anybody could logically argue that Hopkins did NOT win the first Taylor fight. Let's cast aside the bull**** card for round 12 from Duane Ford for a moment and just look at the fight as a whole. Hopkins was slow to start, I'll admit that but he's always slow to start.

Taylor was the challenger, in order for a challenger to defeat a champion, especially one of Hopkins' stature you have to be aggressive. You have to go out there and TAKE that title and do it convincingly. I'm sorry but Taylor just did not perform at the level expected of a champion, he was sloppy, missed almost half of his punches, was nearly knocked out twice and by the end of the 8th round he had been completely drained of energy and was just circling trying to stay alive.

However I realize this is not the thread for this discussion so I'm going to willingly bow out after casting my $0.02 in.

I thought he won both, albeit narrowly.

Regadless, there's nothing wrong with him thinking he won, that's what fighters are made of.

I'd rather this thread didn't turn into a debate about the Taylor fights. That wasn't the point.

Taylor wasnt close to being knocked out. Hopkins gave Taylor wayyyy to many of the early rounds.

Hopkins has always been worried about the ruling bodies trying to **** him. In his eyes this was them finally doing what they had been trying to do for a decade, take the titles away from him.

As I said, it's that same stubborness in a figter that propells them to be so great.

There are people who felt he won those fights, and he's entitled to his opinion, especially when he's only talkng about it in regards to how he uses it as motivation.

Regardless, I'd aprecate you making a new thread if you want to debate the Taylor fights.

I just seen the first 5 rounds of tarver-hopkins and i don't know if the action gets better after the 5th round but this was typical hopkins, he stayed away, came in head first then with looping over-hand rights and then held on while hitting low. and the only one to keep it honest about the fight was merchant except he didn't say anything about the low blows hopkins was delivering. but im assuming after the 5 round the fight got better and hopkins punched a lot more right....
