On paper it's competitive no doubt.

But in reality anything could happen. Wilder could blast Ortiz out early or Ortiz could blast him out early.

We still don't know how good or bad Wilder really is, he's only beaten Stiverne and Stiverne was never the same after winning the title, he completely lost any drive he had after winning the belt and is even older than Ortiz.

Even Ortiz is relatively unproven. He's only beaten Jennings and even if he was as good as that win suggested we don't know how much he has left at 38 after looking poor in recent fights.

Not ready to make a prediction yet but even with Ortiz considerable age and well documented issues with controlling his blood pressure, he's a far superior technical fighter. As long as he hasn't slowed down too much and comes into the ring healthy he's got a great chance.

I like Wilder but I think Ortiz shocks him. He has a solid chin, great technique... and excellent counter puncher with heavy hands.. Dude knows how to set traps, which I haven't regularly seen in the HW division since Lennox Lewis was running things. Of course Wilder could get him out of there... but he looks like a baby giraffe sometimes after taking subtle grazes from opponents. He also stands too low when fighting which takes away his ht adv imo. We'll see. I got Ortiz

You forget Joshua has 2 belts so 2 different mandatories. He's fixing to have 3. Most organisations rarley rank the same fighter the same rank as the others do. Wilder is the b1tch with just one belt

I don't think Wilder has ever said he didn't want Wlad. It was his handlers who said they didn't want the fight.

Finkel said after he won the belt they were not going to chase Wlad because Wilder wasn't ready. Wlad instead fought Jennings in the US in his first fight in the US in 7 years. Wlad was clearly looking to fight Wilder and was looking to build up interest in the US.

Only time Wlad/Wilder could of happened was late 2015. But obviously Wilder's handlers still didn't think he was ready. Wilder was meant to face his mandatory Povetkin after Duhaupas but did a deal so they could face Szpilka first and Wlad then with no chance of unification fought Fury instead and the rest is history.

As for Wilder's choice to fight Ortiz over Whyte. I think Wilder would prefer the payday Whyte brings but Haymon is the man in control and Ortiz is a Haymon fighter unlike Whyte and so Ortiz is who he'll face next. Ortiz is a far better fight so no complaints from me here, Wilder would KO Whyte, hell Browne might KO Whyte next.

I could very well be wrong on my timing here, but wasn't that around the time of Wilders hand/bicep injury and surgery? Only makes sense to tune up instead of fighting Wlad when you don't even know if you still have power in one of your arms.
