Shohjahon Ergashev vs. Sonny Fredrickson tonight...

Threatens to be one of the better fights of the month. Why doesn't big javi have a round by round thread?

Do you know much about the Uzbek fighter? Any amateur pedigree Etc etc.
Two undefeated prospects so hopefully it’s a competitive matchup.

Nothing beyond what's on YouTube and Google but he looks to be a ****er with decent fundamentals.

Should be a pretty interesting fight then. I’ll YouTube him later.

Tis also said he had over 250 amateur fights and won a hell of a lot by stoppage. Was on the Uzbek national team for 6 years. He apparently turned Pro when boxers he beat got picked for Rio 16 ahead of him. I can't find any confirmation though no matter how hard I look.

Very interesting, coming through the Uzbek system you’d expect him to have solid fundamentals, no surprise he carries power as well.

The fella who went to the Olympics instead of him, Fazliddin Gaibnazarov, actually went all the way and won the Gold. He's now 3-0 (1 KO) himself as a Pro. Seems they were stacked at Amateur level at the weight.

Yeah they had a very strong team, they topped the medal table with 3 golds and a couple of silver and bronzes. They also reached the semi’s of the WSB that year.
I’m not massively sold on Gaibnazzarov though tbh, I thought he arguably lost in the Olympic final- he fought a tall rangy black kid from Azerbaijan I think could’ve been somewhere else. I thought the kid edged it anyway, his name escapes me though. I also watched his debut on a TR card he has good footwork and pretty fast hands but he leaves his chin up in the air I think, he’s quite easy to catch with the right hand as well when he fights orthodox fighters. He suffered a flash KD in his pro debut.
Sotomayor the guys name was, he was Cuban but boxed for Azerbaijan for some reason

Yea could be a case of him being better suited to the amateurs and Ergashev being better suited to the Pros.
