With the facts presented this way, it looks like the script for a D-rated soap opera. I feel for Alvarez having to screw around and repeatedly having to fight for eliminator/contender status (although it appears he was more than willing to accept step-aside money).

All us fans know what a farce and a joke boxing politics is; but this has gone beyond a joke. This is what happens when you allow Laissez Faire economics to rule over anything. Money and power are the name of the game.

What we need is a federal commission to investigate and clean up boxing, giving it powers to prosecute anyone who has acted with impropriety and illegally. Sanctioning bodies have become just as corrosive as promoters.

    When is enough enough?

Either way, Alvarez had his chance to fight for the belt and passed on it after Michel couldn't get a fight made between October and December. Now Stevenson is going to fight Jack and Alvarez is going to sit on the proverbial bench...AGAIN
The biggest farce by far had to have been the Wilder/Stiverne/Povetkin debacle where Povetkin tested positive, was postponed, then Stiverne tested positive, then and then and...then.

That is part of why the WBC is the most contradictory organization out of the four major ones.

They take test results from VADA and then make their own decision instead of being consistent

Funny how they quick to dismiss Povetkin and Ortiz but not Vargas and Nery...

All turned down a eliminator for a title shot
Turned out not so bad for Barrera since he's scheduled to fight a title next. As for the others, we shall see...

            2015

November 28 – Alvarez UD Chilemba earning mandatory challenger position.

            2016

August 11 – WBC orders free negotiations for mandatory defense Stevenson vs. Alvarez.

September 13 – Groupe Yvon Michel confirms to the WBC that an agreement has been reached so purse offer is cancelled.

*Alvarez requests WBC to accept his fight vs. Bute as a defense of the WBC Silver title, and also to be a final elimination with the winner being the mandatory of the division.

2016 WBC Convention ruling: WBC accepts Alvarez’ request to fight Bute, with the winner becoming the division’s mandatory challenger. Stevenson is free to do a voluntary defense because the mandatory contender is not available.

Yvon Michel is ****ing up, why are people hating on Adonis 'Superman' Stevenson? you see the list of ducks the WBC provided? from Pascal, Kovalev, Brown not wanting to face Oleksandr Gvozdyk , Alvarez now not wanting a shot at the interim title vs. Oleksandr Gvozdyk . How can anyone fault Stevenson?!

Alvarez is a pucci, make no mistake. Some fighters want to achieve great things in boxing and move to other weight classes, and this guy is shook in his own.

He is a part-timer just looking for some steady cash. Gvozdyk knocks him into orbit and he crashes in Columbia never to fight again.

Eleider Alvarez has basically been used to stop anyone of note gaining the mandatory position. Idiots don't realise it but he has been a pawn used to protect Adonis Stevenson. Now he's been faced with a bonafide opponent he's decided to jump ship rather than lose his 0. After the Badou Jack fight hopefully the winner will be willing/have no choice but to take on a serious Eastern European challenger.
