The belts are at the point now where they're just about completely meaningless.

A complete new system is needed, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Take Light Heavyweight for example. Hopkins is the undisputed Champion now, and he will likely retire.

Then what? Who's belt is more meaningfull? Which titlist has the most claim?

So many division are in flux like this now. It's become a joke.

good idea so there would be an undisputed champ for every weight class and everyone will gun for the fighter who's the champ

Agreed with Bozo that this really is hurting boxing, yet noone seems bothered about it as they add more and more belts.

Casual fans think world titles mean something (not surprising really - they should) and they get confused when they look a bit deeper and see there are 4-5 world champions plus super champs, interim champs etc.

Confusion is the first thing you want to avoid when managing a sport, it very rarely makes for long term success. But boxing is run by so many different organisations all trying to make cash for themselves that an inefficient market has arisen.

Anybody know who allowed the proliferation of sanctioning bodies in boxing?

When will the HW titlest start fighting each other? You would think that they know they would make big money. But they want easy money.....Owen Beck anyone?

Hopkins may be the recognized LHW champ by many, but he is definitely not the undisputed champ. LOL Let's not get silly.
