If Red Balls improves his stamina she can stand and keep the fight in the middle of the ring, he prolly wins

But can he do that ?

If Red Balls can push GGG into the ropes or corner, maybe he can win. But it's not Nelos game since he really doesn't bully/push his previous opponents. Nelo boxed them beautifully.

I said this about the Ward/Kovalev rematch and Ward proved me wrong.

I don't see this fight going any different than the first one. I'll wait for either one to prove me wrong.

I think Canelo is the type of guy would gain confidence from the first fight.

He could be more aggressive in a re-match and get a close decision.

That said, if GGG is the real deal - he could just as easily learn from his mistakes and dominate the re-match.

Until we see otherwise, going with Canelo may be the smart bet. Golovkin has not been out of the ring for this long in 15 years. He showed up a bit soft after Jacobs, this an even longer layoff. We have also seen Canelo in the gym already working out, while Golovkin has been silent. There are 4 months left until the rematch, but if they drag out the signing until end of Jan and Golovkin doesn't get back into the gym until Feb, he may show up to camp weighing 180-190 lbs and spend the first month shedding weight, and show up the rematch in even worse condition.

Having said that, I think Golovkin has a ton more adjustments he can make for the rematch than Canelo. He can come up with 3 solid plans for Canelo and switch between them if the first one doesn't work. He can treat Canelo like Lemieux and pump the jab from the outside the whole fight. Not even try to press him, or corner him. Don't even look for a KO - just pump that jab into Canelo's face. That can be hard enough to defend. He can make focusing on the body a much bigger priority for the first 5 rounds. Canelo's stamina gave him trouble in the 1st fight. With a body attack, that could turn ugly quick.
And lastly, he can just focus on boxing better. The last 2 fights he overly relied on his jab to corral his opponent, and then he just chased them around. If he goes back to the slower, more methodical fighter he was 2-3 years ago, he'll be much more successful.

Canelo's biggest adjustment he can make is to build himself up to be able to fight in the middle of the ring. Such a strategy would surely lure Golovkin in, and may force him to abandon any other plans he had (such as the jab). If Canelo can build up his power and trust his chin/reflexes to stand and fight, he may be able to knock Golovkin out.

We'll have to see how Golovkin looks 2-3 months.

I'll admit I currently have a $200 bet on Canelo (who is the underdog).

Full disclosure, I thought GGG would win the original fight but the only bet I placed was on the draw, thinking if it was close judges would favour Canelo and that due to the $$$ involved a draw to setup the rematch was a far more likely option than the odds payout would suggest. I cleaned up on the original fight bet wise and am hoping to go 2 for 2 with the rematch.

I might put up to another $2k on Canelo for the rematch depending on how I think the training videos look.

I just think GGG has had his time and Canelo will improve more for the rematch than GGG will. Add the Golden Boy factor, Canelo looking good at 160 and GGG ageing even more and I think Canelo (as a dog) is the play here.

Who else is rolling with the Nelo?

Conversely, GGG backers feel free to shut me down and explain how I'm throwing away my money rolling with the Nelo.
Whoever Mr. Wang rolls with, I’m gonna root for.

Thank you but from your username I think you were already rolling with the Nelo!

Another factor here is speed...Canelo has the faster hands and that isn't going to change. Canelo had the power to back GGG off when he threw. GGG ain't getting any faster at his age and I think he is slower than a couple of years ago.

Canelo will outbox him again. All he has to do is worry more about the jab and GGG won't be able to hit him at all
