The US doesn't have a "boxing rival". Boxers no longer wear their flags on their back, especially not if they're from the US - a nation that is becoming less and less worth being "proud" over.
Andre Ward - a gold medalist - never rant and raved about being an American fighter. He was just a great SMW and an okay/above average LHW.
Floyd - a bronze medalist - never made his career about being American. In fact he took advantage of a lot of American stereotypes (*************** black gangster, etc.) to make his record-breaking career earnings
Spence - American - never talks about being American
Crawford - American - never talks about being American
Pavlik - American - never talked about being American
America is not the "greatest country in the world". It is a well-developed nation (infrastructure wise) that is less healthy than most other industrialized nations due to income inequality/oligarchy of politicians/businessmen/bankers.
America isn't competing with anyone in terms of boxing.

Deontay Wilder, Joe Smith, Bernard Hopkins, RJJ, etc., none of them rant and rave about America
I'm in the US and I don't think of any country as my sports rival. Soccer fans probably think this way but boxing is about one man vs another. No teams or singing countrymen in the crowd or any of that ****** shyt.

I don't know which Floyd you watched, but he talked about being American, beating foreigners and wanting Americans behind him every day, non-stop, for 20 years, ad nauseam, constantly.
Let's ignore the edgy lyrics being disguised as opinions/they do not match quantitative reality. There are some fundamentally backward subcultures in the US that will probably never be saved, but the system is thriving & new arrivals have a very easy time accumulating wealth.
