Three-time world champion Abner Mares appeared on ESPN's A los Golpes in Mexico City and said he expected a rematch against WBA featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz to take place on a date in the month of April or March. Accompanied by Olympic medalist Misael Rodrguez, Mares explained that in 2018 he would love nothing more than to fight Leo Santa Cruz, Carl Frampton and Oscar Valdez, because he wants to show that among all the talent at 126 pounds, he is the most versatile and complete.

It should be mandatory that a champion fights at least twice a year unless injured. But I'd like to see Mares fight GRJ or Rigo. I just don't think Mares matches up well against Leo I don't see it playing out any different. The safer option is Valdez he's there to be hit all night.

For the love of God can we move on from this santa cruz vs mares rematch already? It's been years in the making and wasn't even that great of a fight to begin with the first time.

The only fight I'm interested in seeing Mares in is vs Donaire. He'll lose to Santa Cruz again and isn't on the level of any of the top featherweights but a fight with Donaire would at least be interesting because of their history at batamweight and finally settle who was the top dog at 118 back in the day.

this is a talented division but the best needs to fight the best..word to Leo santa cruz and gary russell,abner mares and the other guys in the top 10..get it on..atleast valdez is fighting quigg now..things are moving. what's up with cruz-mares 2?..fight should be on by now
