The doubleheader HBO will televise March 3 seems set up for Sergey Kovalev to face the Dmitry Bivol-Sullivan Barrera winner. That's one potential plan, according to promoter Kathy Duva, though not necessarily the only possible path toward a light heavyweight title unification fight later this year. Duva told BoxingScene.com that if the heavily favored Kovalev beats Igor Mikhalkin in the main event March 3 in The Theater at Madison Square Garden, she'll also try to make another tantalizing showdown between Kovalev and fellow Russian knockout artist Artur Beterbiev.

Beterbiev is the fight, especially if Barrera beats Bivol. Bivol was already unproven going in and Barrera will be a career gatekeeper.

Beterbiev is a huge risk fight for Kovalev. He should rather fight the young & unproven Bivol first and after that Beterbiev.

What has Barrera done to deserve millions? He can ask for $20 million too but does not mean he can generate that money.

Barrera does not bring ANYTHING to the table. Especially no belt.

Everyone already believes that it is just a matter of what round Barrera gets knocked out in against Kovalev.

The only reason Barerra is even talked about is that he is one of the only fights that can be made... and he is skipping it.

WBC belt is being held hostage by Chickenson, Beterbiev has his own promotional issues.

Hence why the talk of Bivol and Barrera.

In reality though... and I was at the last fight at MSG... The VAST majority of the fight fans who showed up were for Kovalev and Valera.... NOT Barrera.

Simply put, Kovalev is TOO much risk and is a CAREER ENDER for Barrera. After he most likely gets KO'ed... what is he to do? Who is he to fight? No belts, no champs, just a decent top 10.
