This is a fairly long article, but well worth reading for students of the game. It was written one day before Lomachenko-Rigondeaux. (The author picked Vasyl.) Using that bout as its focus, this well-written piece contains some historical anecdotes and insight into the sport. The writer, the manager of five world champion boxers, probably knows more about the sport and spectacle of boxing than 99.9% of anyone you’ve ever heard of. Enjoy.

Very in-depth.
I liked how he broke down Loma's early career. Most fighters truly would have drowned against Salido but he damn near had him in the later rounds and he only got stronger as the fight went instead of weaker which is truly rare.
I like his breakdowns of both guys, though.
He really knows his boxing.Comment

Glad you enjoyed it. A friend of mine sent me that article the day it was posted. I put off reading it because it was kinda long, and I had other things to do. Finally got around to checking it out, and I was impressed. Well-written and obviously knowledgeable. A great deal of insight. The writer is a successful guy in more than one field. Gotta respect that.Very in-depth.

It was okay, but a bit rambling. Plus, he didn't really get it right.
He said "Rigondeaux is the better fighter by far" which we can see in hindsight was nonsense.Comment

I’m not sure I would say “by far” myself, then again, I’m certain I don’t know as much about boxing as the writer does. Rigo is significantly smaller and significantly older than Lomo — undoubtedly past his physical prime. All things being equal, perhaps Rigondeaux is the better fighter by far. I really don’t know. But a thoroughly educated eye sees things we don’t. One has to accept that.Comment

One has to accept that thoroughly educated people don't always agree with each other. Which means that thoroughly educated people are not always right.I’m not sure I would say “by far” myself, then again, I’m certain I don’t know as much about boxing as the writer does. Seeing as the writer didn't really break down what would happen in the fight with any kind of accuracy, and given how the fight turned out, I'm happy enough to say that he was simple mistaken.
Rigo was not by far the better fighter. The writer was wrong. I would be interested to see if they have corrected themselves with the benefit of hindsight.Comment
