Comments Thread For: Mares Wants Leo Santa Cruz Next, Will Not Wait Around For Him

Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares engaged in an exciting battle in August, 2015 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Santa Cruz won the fight via majority decision and Mares has campaigned for a rematch ever since. Mares returned to the ring almost 15 months later and captured another world title by defeating Jesus Cuellar via split decision. He then spent the next several months waiting on the rematch with Santa Cruz, who defeated Carl Frampton in January to avenge his only professional defeat.

Mares/Santa Cruz 2 should be on the same card as Thurman/Porter 2. They could call it "Pointless Rematches". Were they compelling enough for second fights? I guess these guys are getting paid, but their careers are stuck in neutral.

I hope LSC doesn't b*tch out, like he did with Frampton! If he does, then please, let's get GRJ vs. Mares!

I liked the concept of pbc in theory but these al Haymon fighters are basically wasting their careers by not fighting often. They're making decent paydays so they're content to fight once a year, maybe twice. Hardly any of them really seem to be chasing greatness. This includes santa cruz, danny garcia, Thurman, etc

Mares vs Frampton will be a good all action match up that needs to happen.

Why would he need to fight him in Belfast??? Freaking the NY fight was 95% Irish and rooting for Frampton. I couldn't hear ANY Leo Fans. Leo was even HEAVILY boo'd.

He agreed to give him a rematch in Belfast but then went back on his word.
