In my post I acknowledged it’s possible to cheat. I think it’s fine suspecting Ortiz is older, but some guys are convinced, as if they have proof. Baseball players have great motivation to lie about their age. A young athlete is much more attractive to prospective buyers.

I think he's about the age he says he is.

His face looks a bit old sometimes, but plenty of other people do too. Tyson Fury could pass for 10 years older than he is. Ortiz has a good head of hair, no real signs of greying or anything, his body and skin doesn't appear to be that of a much older man, no major wrinkles or anything and more importantly his amateur career seems to tie in about correctly with his age.

He has no signs of being over 40 apart from his face looks old sometimes, but even then i don't think he looks that much older than 38.

I think it's just a rumour that got out of hand. It wouldn't surprise me if he was a couple of years older but the story of him being almost 50 is absurd. Go look at your average 50 year old guy, he looks way older than ortiz.

I'm more worried about him cheating with PEDs than I am about him lying about his age.

all jokes aside ortiz shouldn't even be licensed to box at this point. how many times does a mofo have to cheat to get punished. he doesn't deserve this opportunity. hoping for wilder to flatten him early.
The blood pressure problems could be attributed to genetics/dietary issues. I don't think its that farfetched.

How come no one questions Pretty Boy Floyd TBE claims after testing positive for PEDS about 4x and cheating in the Pacquiao fight?

There's videos of him at the boxing world cup in 2005 where he definitely looks 26YO, so I dont think its a big deal that he is 38yo now .... some ppl's face just age quick or the opposite, dont seem to age at all. Mike tyson in the Danny Williams fight also looks 50.... but he clearly wasn't. And its not so easy to forge birth certificates.

yeah but the problem is if he admitted it now it would mean he likely lied about his age when he was fighting kids as an adult as an amatuer

Yes, I'm saying it, assuming Cubans fake their age is not based on facts but on prejudice and stereotypes.

Ortiz, just like Rigondeaux and most other professional boxers from Cuba had a long amateur career. He looked like a boy when he won his silver medal at the World Cup in Moscow 2005.

When do you think he changed his age? When he was 5? They made him -5 years old when he was 5? Come on, gtfo with your imperialist racist bull****.

One might think that it would be easy to prove the age of an athlete who takes part in any meaningful competition. That athlete must, after all, provide documentation to some committee before he or sh

Nwankwo Kanu is really 42, Obafemi Martins is 32, not 25, and Taribo West, whose playing career ended only two years ago, is in his late fifties, say bloggers in Nigeria

surely you udnerstand why it would be easier and more common for this to happen in a third world country, right? it's happened with american athletes as well, it's just not as easy given our standard of living, our ability to keep records, scholastics, etc.
