The answer is simple. Hopkins is a great boxer vs Tarver a good boxer. Tarver has an inflated value of himself. This is because he defeated a very shot fighter Roy Jones, who in his prime would have beat Tarver and Hopkins in the same night.
Im thinkin, was it the weight gain/loss??? Similar to what happened to Roy? You know that issue is gonna come up..
I think it was, partially. He talked so much **** about Roy's excuses, that now he's left himself only being able to say one of two things:
1) Hopkins is a much better fighter
2) I just didn't have "it" tonight.
Taking off muscle is hard, and it hurts. Not sure how much muscle he had to take off, but it was significant anyway. Tarver also had to spend his entire camp working on his weight, rather than preparing to fight one of the best technical fighters in the sport, shoe-in hall of famer and all-time great. The weight situation did not help him, most definitely. Hopkins is just a far smarter fighter, and better fighter, for Tarver to have been working so hard on his weight and to have been weakening himself in the process.
