Comments Thread For: The Year Comes To a Close: Reasons To Be Cheerful

By Tris Dixon - It's that time of year, where you mix moments of reflection with segments of unadulterated optimism. It's when you cast your mind back, as fight fans, to the highs that justify your faith in this, the noblest of arts, while kicking yourself at how the sport managed to again kick itself in the shins...

2018 so far is a load of faeces wrapped in tinsel. What do we really have announced so far

          Rungvisai vs Estrada
          Gassiev vs Doritcos
          Usyk vs Breides
          Groves vs Eubank Jr

          Not yet official

          Joshua vs Parker
          Wilder vs Ortiz

Rest is pretty shameful for one reason or another

The first four you listed are all great matchups. 2018 is already off to a great start with that alone.

And people are sleeping on Errol Spence Jr vs Lamont Peterson in January. I expect that to be a competitive fight that will test the young Spence.

Yeah we settle for fights. Out of 17 divisions, first 6 months of the year we have 4 to 6 matchups that arent favourable to the champion. Not knocking Spence at all, hes made it clear who he wants. But you read the threads when fights get announced like Thurman vs Vargas and people justify it, complicite in this ****. 2017 seemed like a turning point, 2018 looks like its gunna go back to the bad habits.

Though Im ****ing drunk at the moment. Got a pair of wellys and socks for xmas, bull**** make any man salty.
