He said this years ago....I am glad to see more love for Hopkins as a great fighter...and not so much focus on his style...I have personally always enjoy watching Hopkins...mainly because I love defensive and crafty fighters (Mayweather, Whitaker, Toney...etc)...but he got a lot of slack for the way he fights...but it is sure effective...and he can still speak and think when he retires...
Hopkins: "They will love me when I am gone..."

There are some people, like me, who wasn't really a fan of Hopkins and hated his fighting style. We just wanted anyone to shut up Tarver. He would have still been an all-time great no matter if he won or lost that fight. But he won a lot more people over by winning this fight.Originally posted by JMCbullsi do know wat u mean, and it is true. however, tarver only made him popular in this fight, but the whole hopkins legacy is wat will keep him known as one of the best middleweights ever, not one fight with tarverComment

yup...just like Ali embedded the whole "The Greatest" in everyone's heads...Hopkins embedded how he is a true champ, did things his way for legacyOriginally posted by ManagerYou know, he does have Tarver to thank for that. Tarver actually made people have to like Hopkins. It's very true when you think about it. Hopkins played this whole thing out perfect.
funny thing is that they both backed themselves up in their own waysComment
