There's no way anybody in boxing thought that fight was going to be worth 10x more, 5 years later when both are faded, older, one had been knocked out etc.. Everyone knew the fight would always be big no matter when it happened, Floyd included, but not that much bigger, given all the circumstances in-between.

It's easy for Floyd and other people later to say they purposely waited 5 years because it makes them look that bit smarter.

You shouldn't take everything so literally. Learn to understand why people say the things they do, when they do.
What reasons can Floyd cannot say: "Pacquiao delayed the fight. I tried to negotiate but he doesn't budge, though too bad, but at least it helped us in business wise for turning it to a 600 mil fight." Why can't he say that instead of admitting it is his own doing delaying the fight?

      Vargas
      Cotto

      Don't tell me it's a coincidence.
Yet he fought Porter in America, GGG at 160 and Spence coming down two divisions and off an injury. Not saying he hasn't ducked but he's sure strange picking his fights.

It's crazy how some people see things. There is no standards. One guy can do something and its a duck, Another guy does practiclly the same thing and its somehow justified

            Didn't Floyd "retire" in 2007?

Pacquiao was fighting the likes of Solis and a rematch with Barrera in 2007, down at super-featherweight...

Floyd fought at 154 and 147 that year.

I doubt Pacquiao was even on his radar as a potential fight...

              1) GGG also said he'd fight Floyd at 154. Should he be willing to take a fight with Canelo at 154? Or would you have a problem with that?

I would have a problem with it - because even though GGG said he'd knock out anyone at 154-168, it would still be unfair to expect a natural MW who has fought that weight his whole career to come down that much.

Also I'd have a problem with it because obviously GGG was only willing to consider that much weight cutting for a huge money fight against the greatest of an era, much the same as Ward was saying.

              2) That request would be unfair and you know it.

Imagine if Rigo asked Loma to come down to 122, it would be unfair to Loma even if Loma said he was willing to do it because we have no idea whether Loma would be able to make that big a cut.

The same applies for Ward coming down to 160 for a fight w/ GGG. GGG would be fighting a dead man and the fight would be pointless.

He had no reason to think that Ward would take a fight at 164 and only offered that up with the expectation that Ward would have to back off from the fight.

What more can you see from that statement?
"It's all about timing" : Admitting that the timing wasn't right for the fight to happen, thus purposely delaying it.

"Turned the 60 million dollar fight into a 600 million one": Admitting his reasons why he didn't fight Pacquiao. Nothing more you can add other than interpret it as him purposely delaying the fight.

Pacquiao also accepted Floyd May's initial terms after initially rejecting it but Floyd added more demands, then more road blocks from floyd, then the rest is history. Which supports his 2016 statement about the fight.
You are gleaning his statements for what you want them to mean. He did not state that he intentionally held off the fight at all.

But what is clear as day is Pac and Roach saying he is afraid and weakened by needles used for drug testing. You are not addressing this because you know it's a sorry ass excuse that any other fighter would be eaten alive for using.

Because Floyd likes to portray himself as a genius business man in boxing, so he wants all the credit for the money that fight generated by saying he timed it that way.

Nobody plans 5 years in advance in boxing. It's too unstable.

                    Floyd made the midget.

Immediately after they settled out of court for Floyd false accusations, Manny agreed to testing and Floyd went on the excuse trail. TBE...The Best Excuses.
