In this case, Floyd tripped over his own ego. He had been pressured for years to fight Manny, even threw a tantrum in the middle of the ring and cursed out poor Larry Merchant because he didn't want to address the elephant in the room while fans were booing his cheap shot victory over Ortiz.

Floyd delivered at least ten or more excuses over the span of 5 years to avoid Manny. He waited until he saw Manny lose a step before finally agreeing to fight him on his own terms.

When one fighter has a history of ducking (retired to avoid rematch with DLH and to avoid other prime fighters like Manny, Cotto, Margarito, Paul Willaims), and avoided other big names such as Casamayor, Freitas, Wright, Martinez, and prime Mosley, it's obvious who was ducking who all those years. Meanwhile, Manny was fighting monsters while moving up weight classes. Accepted rematches with dangerous opponents who could hurt him...why would he be ducking a guy who isn't a KO artist and not at all dangerous to him?
