  • Pirog's win over Jacobs is one of the most underrated wins in boxing history

    Just rewatched the fight.

That was a technical MASTERCLASS from Pirog.

Now that we know how good Jacobs is (from the GGG fight), Pirog should be given even more credit for his victory. He straight up toyed with a better pre-cancer version of Jacobs.

It's too bad he suffered that injury, I think he would have beaten Golovkin as well.

That's some interesting narrative you have written there. Two obvious and glaring errors are you saying that version of Jacobs was better and that it was a masterclass by Pirog.

There are multiple interviews in which Danny says that facing cancer made him realize what's important in life and to focus on boxing much harder than he has ever done. Today's version of Danny is multitudes better than the 2010 one, from the skills perspective and from the physical perspective. In 2010, that was a 23 year old boy. Today, Jacobs is in the prime of his life.

And it wasn't a masterclass by Pirog. It was a masterful shift, however Dmitry was losing on the cards, 3 rounds to 1. Whether you agree with that or disagree, it was a close enough fight that the word 'masterclass' does not apply to either fighter.

And you would see in Jacobs that night how inexperienced and undisciplined he is as a fighter. I lost count how many times Jacobs panicked against the ropes when Pirog would just bob and weave towards him. No patience whatsoever.

How was Jacobs pre cancer dummy. His cancer was undiscovered and untreated. So that was a weaker version of Jacobs. Secondly Pirog has done nothing lately. Why would anybody be talking about a guy that hasn’t done anything since?

Pirog retired due to injury. Jacobs got cancer much later. You got facts mixed up.

Jacobs was saying those things to hype up his fight with GGG. Cancer destroyed his body to an extent. That was the best version of Jacobs and Pirog made him look like a journeyman.

Pirog was dominating the fight and had Jacobs figured out. Only a fool or a corrupt judge would give 3 rounds to Jacobs too. I had all 4 rounds for Pirog as Pirog had the ring generalship and completely controlled the pace while figuring Jacobs out. He was making Jacobs miss and straight up clowned him, hitting him with hard counters too. Pirog hurt Jacobs in the 2nd round which should have been a knockdown. In the 4th round you could already see Jacobs was completely clueless. But I understand that Pirog's style is too complex and too subtle for casuals like you to even comprehend what you were seeing. Listen Steward's commentary of the fight, he couldn't praise Pirog enough, he realized that he was seeing GREATNESS.

To sum to what you said about Jacobs being young, if I recall correctly he weighed 170 on fight night, while today he weights at least 175 according to him.

Pirog was just too intelligent for everybody. His background is being a chess player. He was one of the most intelligent kids. He was a chess player who accidentally walked into a boxing gym.

That's why he got the nickname grandmaster. The highest IQ in boxing. Too slick, too intelligent, too chess player, too Russian, too Slavic, too scientific, too technical...
