Talk about anything boxing related here. Where the boxing discussion is always Non Stop!
Kovalev also never had a trainer until now.
Basically a typical Russian working class guy who likes his beer and vodka... And made it to boxing elite, beat two HoF guys while drinking litres of vodka during his camps and learned boxing by himself. Greatest pure talent ever?

you're going all in for your countryman! i can dig it.
I don't buy that he was an alcoholic or drinking heavily as LHW champ. The guy is no dummy. He made it really far on his own wit and skill. Unfortunately, he made a lot of excuses when he was bested and people mimicked that, and are still making excuses. Outside of Ward, he's the best 175lb fighter of the last several years and if he still has the hunger, I think he's going to beat the fresh blood coming up.
I don't think a few drinks here and there is going to change him as a fighter, I think hitting that wall and realizing he can't do it without fully listening to a coach, that's what's going to change him.
No wonder he didn't take those body shots too well, that alcohol weakens the liver.
........but after years of Stoli, those guts might not snap back to pre-alcoholic level.
B Hop must be pissed that he was on a clean diet and lived like an athlete but lost his worst loss while being an active champ to an alcoholic anonymous abuser!

Ward's team brought it up and Kovalev never denied it. It's not something that he made up after the fight, it's what Ward and Hunter brought up. People talk in boxing circles, it's a small circle, everybody knows everybody - Ward's own words. People knew about Kovalev's addiction to vodka.
Believe me, if you know how people are in Eastern Europe... You're either an alcoholic or totally clean, we always go to the extremes. If Kovalev loved a heavy alcoholic drink like Vodka believe me it didn't stop with few shots here and there. When a Russian likes something, he wants it all.
I used to be a heavy drinker when I was young. We went out every weekend and I would drink like half a litre of vodka by myself. Then I started boxing and stopped drinking completely.
