styles make fights, and so does age. canelo would put leather on saunders. his hands are pretty fast. the issue would be footspeed, but canelo would be able to counter saunders when he was in range.

golovkin may have slipped just enough that he has trouble landing and with the speed. i think his jab would neutralize saunders' speed, but it's a gamble at this stage in his career. older guys alywas have increasing difficulties with speed, and golovkin is starting to look like an older guy.

then, perhaps they should have offered Saunders more than 1.5mil back in Dec 2015 when Golovkin was 2 years younger?

it seems bizarre that they were willing to allow/enable Kell Brook to make 3x more than Saunders, considering the fact that Saunders was holding Golovkin's "dream"?

styles make fights, age is just a factor..... they know exactly what they are doing, as does any promotional outfit with good matchmakers

here you go . from 2015.

saunders didn't have nearly the muscle to ask for more than 1.5 million as a golovkin opponent in 2015. if you watched the eubank fight it was actually pretty close.

HBO wouldn't put that fight on PPV, and they just can't afford to pay saunders in 2015 [or anybody brought in as an opponent on reg hbo and fighting a highly billed "house fighter,] who wasn't considered nearly the quantity he is now after embarrassing lemieux, 1.5 million bucks.

hell, they couldn't pay that now, and they won't. unless saunders generates some kind of revenue in the UK, which he may, he can't expect that kind of purse. american TV money just won't cover it.

        remember alexander - bradley?
no ? well neither do i, really. that awful fight got an HBO exec canned and ruined the budget for almost an entire year. they just can't afford to pay that kind of money. they paid 3 milion in fees, and guaranteed both guys million dollar paydays, win or lose.

i'm quite surprised they even offere 1.5 million in '15. they must have expected other sources of revenue, because HBO just can't pay that much unless a fight goes to PPV.

as for kell brook, that fight was in the UK in front of 30,000 and on sky ppv. again, in 2015 saunders did not have that kind of muscle. i'm not defending it, but the guy actually wanted the fight, [and looking at the video and elsewhere it's obvious that saunder didn't until golovkin had slowed,] and he brought a ton of f#cking money to the table.

          god that was rubbish

where the hell did they get the 4-5mil that Brook got paid?

don't even think about telling me that Brook was some kind of star

Team BjS might possibly be underestimating GGG thinking he is the more beatable opponet than Canelo. Canelo has speed but he also has stamina issues that could play into Saunders hand. People cry this “GGG is getting old and slow” BS all the time but from watching the Canelo fight, he looked to be the man pressing the fight and he didn’t look that damned old or slow either. He has veered from his winning recipe of going to the body,.. his bread and butter strategy if you will. And this has cost him to ko wins in his last two fights imho. Canelo would be a much easier and winnable fight for a slick southpaw like BJS and golden boy knows it. Hence today’s go ahead “green light” post to get the rematch deal done. Canelo don’t want any of that gypsy man.

              he had no choice

he took what was available, and those guys gave him nothing

knowledgeable observers said that would happen when Golovkin finally stepped up and started fighting top competition

I agree with your point about age, I have not noticed any slippage in Golovkin..... even Sanchez admitted that the Jacobs/Canelo fights played out that way because those guys are MUCH better than Golovkin's previous no-hoper victims

the same thing just happened to Lemieux, and he aint slipping either

I agree with your statement about the level of competition being higher with DJ and Canelo, but it just appeared to me that GGG was more or less head hunting with the fore-mentioned fighters and going for the quick ko instead of,.... and without sounding condescending, just seemed to be holding back his usual body attack when the opportunities were clearly open and present which is totally out of character in GGG's usual game plan of wearing down the opponent with both upstairs and downstairs work. I've watched the Canelo fight numerous times and saw Golovkin going to the head shots, Canelo covering up and leaving his sides virtually unprotected while not even set to counter with anything. And I'm thinking to myself, "G, WTF are you doing not ripping Canelo to the ribs/body"?!?!? IN my eyes, that was what lost him the victory.

I'd have to watch it again, maybe there were more opportunities..... then again the same thing happened to Chavez when he fought Canelo, he kept his hands at home because of the counters

Huh I'm a huge Golovkin fan but Saunders is a mobile fighter. Whether he has the punch to keep Golovkin off him is a different matter but he's a good boxer. No question.
