Comments Thread For: Billy Joe Saunders-David Lemieux: Pre-Fight Report Card

How silly can boxing be sometimes? If WBO middleweight titlist Billy Joe Saunders wins Saturday night, his name will surely come up as a potential unification opponent for Gennady Golovkin down the road. If David Lemieux wins, he will be a second time middleweight champion' after losing his IBF title to Golovkin. In boxing, for the price of a sanctioning fee, reality can be what one makes of it.

Saunders' style is difficult for Lemieux to crack dawg.
Forget about lil G. Different fighters, different styles.

Lemieux inside four. Gut feeling. This time he will be more intelligent.

STOP PRESS (after watching the fight)

Next time I will be more intelligent.

Only way I see this fight going is Saunders outboxing Lemiuex in a borefest or Lemieux dominating a fight catching Saunders with power shots and Saunders just fighting to survive

These report cards on boxing attributes are terrible LOL

That being said, the x-factor in this fight will be whether Lemieux can get to the body. From what I've seen from Lemieux - he'll chase and head hunt. The difference here is that the guys who have beaten Lemieux clearly were relatively big punchers for the division - Rubio and GGG. The other loss was controversial and the closest opponent to compare to Saunders - Joachim Alcine.

I think this fight plays out very similar to the Alcine fight - and if you watched that fight closely and didn't just go by the judge's scorecards (not just the overall decision) - it's somewhat clear what I'm implying here about this fight.

If Lemieux hasn't learned anything since 2011 (the Alcine fight) when he was 22 years old, then he deserves to get beat.

About the same time Saunders was also 22 and fighting Tommy Tolen (4, 7, 0 at the time).

So at the same age, Lemieux was fighting ex. world champions while Saunders was barely out of his pro nappies.

Lemieux stepped up too soon and rebuilt after the Alcine and Rubio losses. Saunders has spent a lot of the last couple of years in the boozer and blowing up to 210 lbs, and unless you're Roberto Duran, you pay a price (well, Duran paid a price but was a bit special).

If Saunders wins I think we can all wonder how good he could have been if he had the same dedication level as a Floyd.

The baguette eating frog looked like death personified. like he was running on instinct at the prospect of watching Oscar take a bath.
