Comments Thread For: Saunders Unfazed by First Pro Bout Outside UK, Judging in Canada

Billy Joe Saunders would've preferred defending his title against David Lemieux in England. Each of Saunders' first 25 professional fights have taken place in England, but Lemieux wasn't willing to travel there for a shot at Saunders' WBO middleweight title. As long as the compensation met his demands, Saunders had no problem crossing the Atlantic Ocean for a fight in Lemieux's native Quebec.

Billy Joe gets a little more respect from me now that he decided to fight out the corrupt UK boxing circuit, but then again did he have a choice? I mean Lemieux is his mandatory right? and I hear this guy cant sell in his hometown, maybe I spoke to soon.

Almost $2million would make a lot of champs travel. No way Saunders get that at home. By far his biggest payday

Like I said before the UK does not appreciate their proven talent, James 'Chunky' Degale and Billy Joe are their top talent but they rather support E.U bum jr. who already has a L by the hands of Billy Joe.

Billy Joe is getting sparked. The ref won't be hostile, but LeMule will get more leeway when things get rough. The hometown edge is worth 2 points, when homey hits like a mule, it's worth a lot more.

I doubt that. Saunders is pretty good. Lemieux is very dimensional.

It crossed my mind that the ref could play a part as their styles could lead to some clashes where the referee will have to start giving warnings one way or the other. If Saunders smothers and holds frequently the crowd could incite the referee to act in Lemieux's favour, meantime Lemieux could get away with some fringe stuff on the inside as the crowd won't be baying for blood when he does it.We'll see.

First time All year I cant decide who’s gonna come out on top here, I’m leaning towards lemuiex by KO cause I want to see that but Saunders could be too slick for him and just outbox him. The thing that is really swaying me for lemeuix is it’s his hometown Saunders will have a hard time earning the decision.

you guys were sleeping on Saunders big time

this is my prediction from the other thread.....

..... David Lemieux, is the epitome of average

he is " just " a puncher..... nothing more

he is bread-n-butter for a good fighter, which Saunders is

hopefully BJS proves that tonight, which I think he will

Saunders has above average skill and enough power to keep Lemmy honest, which should do the trick

Saunders is already inside Lemieux's head

I expect Lemieux to miss wildly and blow his load down the stretch

if he does not catch Saunders with something early, it could be a long frustrating night for him

..... Lemieux has never been a top level fighter so if Saunders wins it'll be a good win for him but not a huge upset. Lemieux isn't top 3 in the middleweight division.

..... Lemieux is the epitome of average, just a tough-guy puncher..... difficult for someone like Curtis Stevens, but bread-and-butter for a skilled boxer

Lemieux is not a genuine world-class fighter, Saunders could be with commitment/activity..... currently, neither of them operate at the level of Golovkin/Canelo/Jacobs.....

a re-dedicated Saunders, with a couple of recent fights under his belt, really should be viewing Lemieux as a showcase opponent..... his plan should be to defuse/dissect the "killer" in his own back yard, schooling him while looking great in the process.....

Saunders had no problem travelling because the venue/opponent are a perfect showcase opportunity
..... I would be very surprised if Lemieux was the favorite, even fighting at home

you guys were sleeping on Saunders

and, NO..... that was not his best performance.....

I have been watching him since he was a kid

thank god we no longer have to listen to guys refer to Lemieux as world-class
