  • Comments Thread For: Frank Warren: DeGale Used Wrong Tactics, He is Not Washed Up

Promoter Frank Warren insists James DeGale will not walk away from boxing despite the Londoner hinting at retirement following his shock defeat to Caleb Truax. Truax, the 34-year-old American, was a 16-1 outsider to beat the former Olympic champion at London's Copper Box Arena on Saturday night. But DeGale, who was taken to hospital after the bruising encounter following a suspected broken nose, was no match for Truax and lost on a majority decision

I laughed at how Warren said one reason DeGale lost was "because he kept going against the ropes giving the appearance his opponent is doing well"....Not even bothering to mention Truax' game plan was to force DeGale in the ropes by cutting him off and putting him there. Thus perception is reality in this case, and at the end of the day another 'Yank' came and snatched a belt.

James corner need to look at themselves too, there was no urgency in them either - i think they actually said he was winning the fight in the later rounds too

Badou Jack has ruined him and his corner has put the nail in the coffin!

Degale needs to fire his coach and get with Rozier or Derrick James, they'll teach him how to box with more authority and not waste energy on useless movements!

He has speed, fast feet, decent jab but lacks conditioning, authoritative power and an inside game!

Every opponent knows how to beat Degale and he needs to rest up for 2018 and focus on a new corner an coach!

I say fight in 2019, he's took a major damage to his prime that likely cut some years off of him in his last 4 fights!

Degale has always had a big head. I'm glad it's finally been deflated.

He looked terrible in his last 4 fights. If there was a 13th round against Badou Jack there would be very little left of DeGale’s face. This has been coming for a long time. He’s a bit like Amir Khan… some slick skills but not the whole package, and simply not robust enough for the top level.

Lol. I like James. He's always talking mad shìt but if you can't back it up you have to shut the fùck up for your own sake. Still the kid was literally only the 2nd British fighter of recent times to consistently fight AWAY from home like Khan. He fought some very good international level boxers with varying styles. Didn't quit even after getting the dog shìt beat out of him by Badou Jack and having his bridge knocked clean out.

The other English fighters get far too comfortable sitting at home getting fed bum after bum and very well matched opponents who have a disadvantage then when they bump into a live one we have all seen what happens to them.

I respect those who travel away from the safety of their own backyard. James really needs to just focus on challenging the domestic names now like Groves, who he's lost to already, Eubank Jnr and Callum Smith. He can forget about challenging Ramirez or going up a weight to chase down a rematch with Badou or become a two weight champion.

The loser of Groves vs Eubanks will definitely need Degale to make money. Callum Smith also needs a big scalp on his resume so that's a possibility too.

I agree with all that, most people seem to hate the guy more than others that have actually said and done far worse, like Fury and Saunders for example, which I just don't get.
British people either like you or they don't, and it seems most don't like Degale.
He won my respect as well by fighting away from home. One thing I had to pick you up on though - Froch fought abroad just as much as Khan. Taylor, Abraham, Kessler, Johnson, Ward were all away fights for him.

I like Froch too. He didn't wait around too much for Calzaghe even though he tried to get him in the ring. Just got on with it. No nonsense. Then the Super 6 got him out and into the international scene. Think he ended up in New York for the final with Ward? Can't remember.
Just don't ask him about that time he knocked out Groves at Wembley in front of 80,000 people.
