Not gonna lie, I agree with Stephen A. Smith.

Before they even break a sweat they're quitting because they get embarrassed.

I mean hell, Manny got embarrassed by Floyd but at least he lasted the 12.

Manny was getting tossed around - literally - by Jeff "The Hornet" Horn, still lasted the 12.

Bradley got rolled up, wife walking out, etc. against Manny, he lasted the 12.

Algieri got dropped 6 times with a highlight reel perfectly timed comment from Tim Lane, he lasted the 12.

Marquez barely won a round against Floyd, he lasted the 12.

Bernard Hopkins didn't win a round against Kovalev, he lasted the 12.

Canelo got taken to class by Floyd, he lasted the 12.

Seems like some of these younger guys have either been training with Victor Ortiz or were inspired by him to where quitting is now perfectly acceptable.

I don't think he got paid that much more to get dropped by Amagasa. Didn't stop him there

None of those fighters were being pressured like Rigo. Rigo wanted to fight at his regular, slow pace but he wasn't allowed to. He was being forced to hold, run and defend, ...or fight back. His problem was that he couldn't even be competitive. Pacquiao nailed Mayweather multiple times with good shots and that was a moderately slow paced fight. Nothing like this fight. Rigo knew that he was going to be stopped...., so he decided to stop the fight before he was embarrassed and hurt. He's a bit of a weasel for pulling that, but he would have looked even worse had he been KO'd.

Fighters quit because they're trying to avoid the pressure and the inevitable stoppage.

You forgot to mention some fighters even go on to win bouts with a broken hand.

It was disappointing to see a champion fighter without the "champion" spirit, but then I think Rigo's head was up his azz for taking a fight with such a size and age disparity............not to mention skill level.

That pressure Loma puts you on is vastly different from everyone else. It takes a physical toll and a huge emotional one. He forces people to react to him for 12 rounds, and that's a lot, lot of mental pressure.

It's almost Tysonesque in that regard, the mental aspect of it. If I slip up I'll get ktfo.

One thing Smith said last night struck me, “At what point did Rigo hurt his hand?” Really, how many punches actually connected? How many punches landed hard? That was just a lame excuse to weasel out of a fight Rigondeaux was about the be embarrassed in.

Had the exact same thought myself after reading what Arum said about him quitting
