Comments Thread For: Liam Smith: I'm Confident of Taking WBO Title From Sadam Ali!

Following Liam Smith's November victory in the rematch against Liam Williams he became first in line to challenge for his old WBO super welterweight title. Sadam Ali tore up the script to win the belt last weekend against Miguel Cotto to set-up a meeting with Beefy' early next year. Speaking on the BoxNation Podcast, Smith gave his thoughts on the New Yorker: "It was a very good performance, he got his tactics spot on. I think it was just that he was young, fresh, fit and with good legs.

He was confident before the canelo fight until the bodyshot ripped the arse out of him. I don't mind the smith's but this div struggled with Williams and feels that warrants a wbo title shot? If anything id like to see cotto get the bit between his teeth once more and rematch sadam as I think the bicep injury somewhat played a part in the outcome of the fight. Plus cotto underestimated the difficulty of the fight but could make the relevant adjustments in the rematch.

This actually wouldn't be a bad fight I think. It's a good test for Sadam at the weight, I think Ali should take this fight for sure. I think he would win and it's a good measuring stick.

If I'm Ali I try and first fight Khan, Brook. Or any other big name welterweight looking to move up for a shot at his title. Cash in for a big payday. If none want the fight then I make the Smith fight which is winnable for Ali. But stay away from the big boys at 154lb. Ali is not very big his natural weight is 147 he just jumped up for the payday and opportunity to fight a legend. At some point he is going to have to move back to 147 but should atleast milk that belt for a payday or 2 before then.

I feel Smith would be able to take Ali, but not the other top guys at the weight.

Ali should be a little tougher than the cupcake they fed Smith for his first paper belt. Really a battle to determine the fourth or fifth best alphabet beltholder at 154.

The in house Arum (WBO) belt doesn't really count. You guys should fight the real Champs at 154.
