Truly "GREAT" fighters WANT to be challenged...

so their best can be brought out, and they can "show the entire world exactly who they are"...

That's why there's a ton of B Level fighters, and very few As at any given time...that's why I don't use the term "great" loosely...only people who have competed at an extremely high level can fully understand this...

They want to be inspired to the point where they have to try harder than they ever have...they want to have their limits tested and stretched...

This is what Ward wanted, and he proved he had the stuff...this is what Rigondeaux wants...

and that's why I'm rooting for him..

    I want to witness Greatness.

I agree, rising to the challenge makes great fights & boxing history. Looking forward to this bout, not emotionally invested in either fighter but it should be one of the best of 2017, and it's been a pretty decent year for boxing so far.

Hope it lives up to the hype.

Ward fought the best men in his weight class nothing more. That's good but nothing Russians GGG, Kovalev and Loma aren't doing. Ward never fought anyone even a pound heavier than the weight class he was in.When Ward fought Kovalev he was a full light heavyweight who said he could no longer comfortably make 168 and would never fight at 168 again. Ward's last 2 fights before Kovalev were at 175. Ward didn't move up to 175 to dare to be great. He moved up because he had to. He had out grown 168 and was a full light heavyweight who weighed 186 on fight night. Most people thought Kovalev deserved to win the 1st fight with Ward and Ward's KO over Kovalev was a questionable stoppage. Rigo has moved up 8 pounds to fight a great fighter when he can still make 122. Still he looks very lean and strong as hell in recent pictures of him so he won't be giving up much if any muscular weight when he fights Loma. There will be two men in that ring. If Rigo becomes great if he wins then Loma becomes great if he wins. You can't have it so only Rigo can achieve greatness. Your opinion on who is great and who is a B level boxer is just your opinion and not a fact. You get to decide those things for yourself but the rest of us get to decide for ourselves who is great and who is B level etc. I think there will be two great boxers in the ring when Loma fights Rigo. The winner might become a little greater.

Completely agree with the notion of this thread.

Jeff "The Hornet" Horn dared to be great, unlike Manny who ducked him on a rematch after getting called out, to take a fight with a guy who's 0-1.

After skimming through that block and getting a negative vibe, I have come to the conclusion you're a bit of a nuthugging anti-American...

No Quality Boxing Fan would have a problem with my opening post and take that personally...it revealed your inferiority and insecurity.

And for the record, both of these guys WERE "great" amateurs and ARE A level Pros...they are NOT "great" Pros YET....the #1 PFP, Crawford, is not a "great" Pro YET...

That can and might change tonight though...I would love to see Rigondeaux manage it...

So true. It's not all about money, it's champion mentality to want to test yourself against the best. It's a very rare quality today, but was more apparent in the 70s - 90s. I think all this speak of A side, high pay for fighting weak opposition in the 00s ruined boxing.
