The Ali Trophy semi-final bout in the cruiserweight edition of the World Boxing Super Series between WBO World Champion Aleksandr Usyk (13-0, 11 KOs) and WBC World Champion Mairis Briedis (23-0, 18 KOs) hits the Arena Riga, Latvia on January 27, 2018. "The stand-out atmosphere in the quarter-finals was the noise the fans made in the sold-out Arena Riga," said Kalle Sauerland, Comosa's Chief Boxing Officer.

Usyk taking somewhat of a risk. Briedis is a bit of a stinker and can hold a lot so if this one gets close the crowd could factor in. He should be fine as he's a level above and once he starts getting into a rhythm he should simply overwhelm Briedis.

Usyk should win by UD but Breidis is one tough fighter so we shall see. I think Dorticos be. Usyk will be the final.

To be the best Usyk is having to go through the very best, Briedis and the other semi final winner will truly establish whomever wins this tournament.

I can't understand why the major U.S. networks chose to avoid the WBSS semi-finals and finals! That is way better than Cotto vs. Ali, Kovalev vs. Shabranskky, Joshua vs. Takam, Wilder vs. Stiverne, and Horn vs. Corcoran! WTF???

True. I'm loving this tourney. Really bringing out the truth in the CW div.

I think Usyk will take Bredis but only if he's "on" that night. Bredis is solid enough to keep him honest and a mediocre appearance by Usik wouldn't be enough to get through Bredis, IMO.

I always hoped/expected this to end up w/ Gassiev vs Usyk but Dorticos might have something to say about that.

Any of these four guys against each other is monstrous, a loss will see either lose lustre but hell who cares it's boxing at the highest level.

I just hope the finances are viable for them to continue another the year after as planned, the light heavies and welters that would be a dream, I'd settle for the 154's instead of 147, hell even 160 is starting to heat up especially now it's looming large GGG is looking close to calling it a day.

The WBSS is a real boxing fans wet dream.

Breidis is a real student of sweet science. He outboxed Huck more convincingly than Usyk did.
