Why was Ali able to hurt Cotto more than Canelo ever did?

He was a shot fighter, stamina was not there, punch resistance wasn't there, timing wasn't to his previous standards. Hallmarks of a shot fighter.

That is a very good question.

First off, Cotto hit Canelo more than vice versa, which made Canelo look to throw single shots and most of his punches were coming in wide. I felt Cotto won that fight, at the very least it did not warrant a 24 point gap between the fighters.

Sadam actually took the fight to Cotto and showed more balls in landing shots and moving in and out of range than any fighter since Pacman.

Now, factor in Cotto being almost shot and you get the perfect recipe.

When you get older your brain functions start slowing down with age some faster then others especially with the constant head trauma, we call it getting shot as a fighter, an older person who doesn't take so much brain trauma will keep their reflexes and timing better and longer then a professional fighter.

So the punch you don't see and can't react to hurts you later in age being a pro fighter.

Cotto just couldn't get out of the way of Ali"s power punches so he was hurt more then when he fought Canelo. Also Ali and Conelo came from the same weight class so i doubt Canelo hits that much harder at 155 then Ali does it's just Cotto is getting older and is getting hit and his brain has damage so he gets hurt even more.

Proof Roy Jones jr getting knocked out when losing his reflexes .

Proof Sugar Ray Lenard getting knocked out not being that old against Terrible Terry Norris, why? losing his reflexes faster then normal in boxing.

Proof Rid**** Bowe already suffering from brain trauma at the age of 31 fighting Golota 1 and 2, then after fight 2 showing crazy fast brain damage from boxing at 31 years old having to retire from the sport.

Or it just could be Ali hits as hard or harder then Canelo and it's Ali"s hand speed that bothered Cotto and he couldn't move his head fast enough to doge the punches.

Maybe Cotto and his Doctor sees systems of brain damage and told him he should retire, because he looked pretty sharp last night and looks like he has a couple of more years left and could win a rematch, but his brain damage slow speech and reflexes could be coming slowly, so Cotto decided to call it quits.

Age. Some do it fast, some do it slow, but it happens to everyone.

Also, sometimes you just get hit with a shot in the right spot that rocks you.

Amir Khan never got physically dropped by Maidana, yet got dropped and KO'd by people that don't hit as hard. It just happens sometimes. That's boxing.

Arthur Abraham got put on ***** street at one point by Martin Murray and Murray isn't considered a puncher. Abraham has been cracked by much bigger punchers and took it better.
Great point and great supporting evidence

It's the speed. He didn't expect Ali to actually hit that hard and had trouble seeing it coming. Reminds me of the heavyweight Maurice Harris. He used to knock the **** out of guys when he used his speed but when he tried to fight with power would get whooped

Cotto just didn't seem like he wanted it, he wasn't a hungry fighter in there. I think he wasn't prepared for what Ali was bringing to the table like he was against Canelo.

Cotto had better head movement and upper-body movement against Canelo. Ali was hitting with accurate shots on the temple, dont remember Canelo catching Cotto quite as cleanly on the temple.
