Rating the 2008 USA Olympic Boxing Team

They only won one medal, lowest since 1948 (Wilder - bronze). No gold medalists for the second time in 3 Olympics. They currently sit at 5 world champions which is the most since the 1996 team had 6.

    2008: 5 champions
Heavyweight: Deontay Wilder, 7-0 in title fights, current WBC Heavyweight Champion (6 defenses)
Welterweight: Demetrius Andrade, 3-0 in title fights, former WBO Junior Middleweight Champion (1 defense), former WBA Junior Middleweight Regular Champion (0 defenses)
Lightweight: Sadam Ali, 1-1 in title fights, former WBO Welterweight Title Challenger, current WBO Junior Middleweight Champion (0 defenses)
Bantamweight: Gary Russell Jr., 3-1 in title fights, former WBO Featherweight Title Challenger, current WBC Featherweight Champion (2 defenses)
Flyweight: Rau'shee Warren, 1-2 in title fights, former WBA Bantamweight Super Title Challenger, former WBA Bantamweight Super Champion (0 defenses)

Decent squad. Obviously none of them are "the guy" at their weights, but Deontay is top 10. Booboo is top 10. Russel is also Top 10.

Don't know anything about Warren and Ali is a fringe Top 10-15.

Not a terrible class by any means

They seem to always have a strong class.

The only exception is 2004, where it was pretty much only Ward who won a belt.

According to TBRB, Wilder is #2 at heavyweight, Russell Jr. is #3 at featherweight, and Andrade is #4 at junior middleweight.

All 3 are capable of defeating anyone in their weight class.

Not a bad class at all and some solid guys on there. Add in Danny Jacobs and they are really looking good.

Wilder is far from #2 ans Andrade is far from #4. I wouldn't completely rule GRJ from being 3 at FW

You're wrong about Wilder and Andrade. Plus Russell should be higher.
