How did marquez and cotto NEVER fight?

This is like the perfect matchup. The most equally overrated two of boxers of all time.

They could have squared off and made a fortune off each other

It wold have been a huge mexico-PR rivalry fight. I;m sure it would have done extremely well in viewing and sales.

    What a travesty

Yeah, two aging stubborn divas unwilling to budge on the weight.

I never really wanted too see it tbh. By the time Marquez got to 147 which he was way too small for, Cotto was 154 lb’er. Marquez-Cotto always felt like more of a money fight to me as opposed to a great matchup. I think Cotto would’ve just been too big and strong especially during the period when JMM fought at 147 as he was heading towards 40.
I’d have much rather seen Cotto face Bradley at 147 or ODLH which was meant to be on the cards if Cotto would’ve beaten Margarito back in 2008.
As for Marquez I would’ve liked to have seen him fight Morales quite strange that their paths never crossed really. Marquez vs DSG would’ve also been a fun fight, 🇲🇽 vs 🇵🇷 as well.

Marquez was a good boxer and not overrated. Cotto is overrated by many or I am underrating him. Cotto was much too big for Marquez who never was a full welterweight.

Cotto has faced enough Mexicans to keep it real with his Puerto Rican fanbase. Legitimate and credible opponents too. One was packing plaster of Paris the other was packing the officials in his back pocket.

There was only a small window of opportunity to fight Marquez and Cotto I believe was too big for him at the time.
