Comments Thread For: Bivol's Manager on Facing Barrera, Kovalev, Beterbiev, More

Light heavyweight Dmitry Bivol (13-0, 11 KOs) is undeniably one of Russia's top new stars. The Russian is coming off a major knockout win over Australian Trent Broadhurst, which has officially confirmed his claim of the WBA light heavyweight champion. Vsenabox conducted an interview with Vadim Kornilov, who is Bivol's manager, about his fighter's immediate and more distant plans, as well as about the current state of the division, partially dominated by the Russian boxers.

Not the first time I have heard Russian fighters and trainers imply they prefer to avoid each other if champions. In other country's when 2 compatriots are champions it is a natural matchup. Imagine if American fighters and promoters felt the same way - the sport would be dead within a few years.

I predict Kovalev, Bivol, and Beterbiev will never face each other.

This is definitely something that fighters from other countries need to keep an eye on.

If the Russians aren't going to work against each other then maybe the Brits shouldn't either, for example.
