I don't think Canelo beating Golovkin would surpass Joshua beating Wilder in the eyes of the public. Even though it would be a much better win a dominant heavyweight champion will far outshine a good middleweight champion as far as average goes is concerned. Even if Canelo could beat Golovkin he'd have plenty of threats at he's weight who aren't well known. If AJ beats Wilder it sets up the Fury fight that would be by far the biggest boxing event in the world.
