Comments Thread For: Sergey Kovalev-Oleksandr Gvozdyk - Is The Fight a Non-Starter?

As you peruse the light heavyweight rankings, the name of Oleksandr Gvozdyk (14-0, 12 KOs) is ubiquitous. The Ukrainian is rated second by the IBF, third by the WBA and number two by the WBC. And most interestingly, he is the top rated contender by the WBO, who's belt was recently captured by Sergey Kovalev (who knocked out Vyaschelav Shabranskyy in two rounds this past weekend for the vacant title).

I'm not sure; to me, Gvozdyk is slightly overrated. I think Kovalev would defeat him quite easily.

That's why Ward got out. Too many big boys in the LHW division. He can't beat them all and a loss might make him cry.

that's what makes it interesting, Kovalev could walk through him but what if Gvozdyk lives up to his hype

I think they'd rather go through Stevenson for the WBC or Beterbiev for the IBF but Stevenson obviously wouldn't entertain it due to Gvozdyk having a pulse and obviously has a cozy relationship with the WBC. I think Beterbiev could be an option if he completes the full move to Top Rank.

Then probably Kovalev fights Bivol due to the HBO/Main Events connection. Maybe the winner fights Gvozdyk sometime in 2019. I hope he gets these fights. I think he's the best of the bunch.

                Definitely!
                My personal ranking:
                1) Kovalev
                2) Gvozdyk
                3) Beterbiev
                4) Bivol
                5) Badou Jack
                6) Barrera
                7) Chickenson

LHW has become one of the most challenging division, after Ward's departure.

Enough is enough with Stevenson. The WBC needs to force this guy into some tough fights. The division is stacked with talent but Stevenson is holding the title hostage.

The 1st ballot Hall of Famer / gold medallist will ALWAYS cast a shadow on this division even though he is retired and is NOT the subject of the discussion.

When you MOVE UP in weight and TAME boxings supposedly indestructible force , you will always be remembered!!!
