And then in the second fight... there was a lot of weird things going on. Yes Ward is good, but he also charges with his head to get inside. Nothing about those two fights sits right. I know this thread isn't about Kovalev-Ward II, but that fight still pisses me off.

He was robbed even worse in the second fight. Got hit square in the nuts which was proved on replay and the ref waves it off and declares ward the winner. One of the worst robberies ever. He was beating ward pretty easily too, he learned a lot of wards tricks from the first fight and wasnt letting him get inside as much. If ward didnt have bad refs and judges on his side kovalev would be a big ppv star right now

you are right that kov was completely robbed and everyone turned a blind eye in order to promote ward(a guy that retired after the fight lmao how did that pay off?) but kovlaev will never be a ppv star. its just not in the cards for him win or lose. he doesnt have the demographic base for it or nationality.

Thank god he **** canned that snake in the grass jd jackson, kovalev said he feels stronger than he ever has and i believe it by the looks of him, his traps and shoulders are huge. Hes going to knock out anyone that gets in his way. Hope stevenson grows a pair and fights him and i can't wait to see beterbiev fight him too.. Shouldn't be a hard fight to make, beterbiev is with top rank and arum is always looking to make the big fights

I think he could have been if he beat ward both fights just by his exciting fighting style. Pacquiao is dumber than a box of rocks and doesnt have much personality but fans all over the world took a liking to his style. Not saying hed be pacquiao or mayweather but maybe more like Ggg or Miguel Cotto popular. Either way im glad hes back and hope he puts the robberies in the past and finds great success

There was hardly anything impressive about Kovalev's performance. Yes, he got his guy out of there and utilized a body attack that we haven't really seen before. He looked a lot less sharp than he did even against Ward. He still gets overly excited when he has his man hurt. There was no pacing. If Shabransky offered an ounce of resistance and the fight went late he would be dealing with a spent Kovalev. I've always thought Kovalev was a good boxer with a lot of power. What I saw was a lot of power but no real method to his game. He bullied and battered a much inferior opponent. He would have a problem with any of the top LHW judging from this performance.

                      1) ... He didn't bully shit... the "ex-Soviet school" has nothing to do with bullying opponents (with Provodnikov as a notable exception)...
                      2) ... you mean Stevenson, Alvarez, Gvozdyk, Beterbiev, Bivol, right?...
