Hopkins Weighing in at Supper Middle?

What are you guys thoughts on this? I just heard Hopkins on our local radio station talking about the fight and the way the guy asked him the question, you couldnt tell if Hopkins meant the weigh in or if he meant what he would come into the ring weighing but I assume he means the weigh in.

Anyways he said that he would only weigh like 167 or 168 because he wants to feel comfortable and doesnt want to forfeit his speed advantage. Im looking at this like Floyd vs Zab that I bet Hopkins will only gain like a pound or 2 at the most by time he gets in the ring and will probally come in the ring at less then 170 while Tarver will come in at like 190 or more and have atleast 20 pounds on Hopkins.

This is for alot of you that said Hopkins could make 175 easily. I dont think he can do it without having to kill himself. You say that he's 41 but thats the point. Anytime theres a guy who's 41 and has been at 1 weight his whole career and never struggled to make weight then you know he cant just come in at 175. X is a naturally slim guy. Remember when he was talking about fighting Toney at Crusier that time and even then he said he would only weigh 168.

I am also thinking that Floyd has reached his limit at 147 and Ive heard that he only walks around at 149 so if he fights Oscar at 154, I wouldnt be surprised to see him weigh the exact same thing he does at Welterweight and would come into the ring at 147 while Oscar will have 25 pounds on him at 172.

Do you guys think X is making the right choice or do you think he shouldve tried his best and ate everything to get up to 175? Ofcourse we dont know for sure until the weigh in but he seemed pretty serious about it and said he wants to be like the littile Mongoose against the Big Cobra and he doesnt want Tarver to use the Rock movie & weight as a excuse when he loses. If X does when though then you know everyone will want to see him vs Calzaghe if he weighs 168.

Nigel Benn said he'd do that, when he was scheduled to fight Jeff Harding for the world light-heavyweight title in 1991, said he'd weigh 168 as a light-heavy because he saw no need in putting on unnecessary weight (ala Ricky Hattin against Collazo).

When Billy Conn fought Joe Louis he didn't bulk up to 190lbs in a vain atempt to out-muscle him - he got his weight down low to maximise his advantages of speed and elusiveness. Modern fighters like Chris Byrd who often fight larger opponents should take note.

Yeah but you cant really compare this era to the old Joe Louis era's. Guys back then beat bigger guys all the time but that doesnt happened that much now. I mean SRR is the greatest of All Time but for him to "really" win the Light HW title should tell you something. That wouldnt happened now days. He is the G.O.A.T. though so you never know. It could happened again but I doubt it

Hopkins started off as a light-heavyweight and use to come into the ring weighing alot on the night of the fight (in his earlier days at middle). I think he can make 175lbs. easily but no matter what, on the night of the fight Tarver will be the bigger man so there's no point in fooling himself into thinking he can outmuscle Tarver and bully him around. So just as he said, weighing 168lbs. will allow him to feel comfortable enough to try to use his speed advantage.

175 is the MAX u can weigh at lightheavy, why cant hopkins come in at the minimum weight? id would be an advantage for him since he had to gain less weight ( he came in to the ring at 170ish when he fought taylor)cause tarver had to lose alot more then he has to gain
