On the Spotlight: Errol Spence Jr

This is a post I made in another thread. Please tell us what you think. Can he compete with the guys I mentioned? I believe so.

I made a thread maybe a year ago about a Spence vs GGG fight, and people laughed at me. I do think Spence is that good, or even better. He needs to prove himself soon.

Some great analyses, not much critique, and delusions. I agree with almost all the posts, aside from those who think Peterson has any chance. I want him to do well, but I don't see it, unless it's a lucky punch while Spence is sleeping on the wheel. Sorry.

Those who said Spence's resume is kinda mediocre, I agree. Brook is a good fighter, but he isn't anything special. Although I've been a huge fan of his since the beginning, I'm now beginning to scrutinize Errol Spence.

Before you jump, I know a lot of fighters don't wanna have anything to do with him. Still, at the peak of his hype, I'm sure Haymon can find him a good 154 guy to stay active against and build on his momentum.

He spars many super welterweights and middleweights. I wanna see him fight people like these: Canelo, GGG, Lara, the Charlos, Erickson Lubin, Hurd. Start somewhere. Spence is a huge welter.

His inactivity pisses me off. Spence hasn't been tested yet, and in the Brook fight, he looked a little above average. He needs to be challenged, and I don't mean Thurman (no disrespect). The welterweight division isn't that strong. Move up and try to reign over the super welters.

Spence's wasting his prime and hype.

    Fans will move on!

I think Spence can beat all the welterweights and all the Jr. middleweights. I think Canelo, GGG and Jacobs are too big for him because they are very good hard punching middleweights. He might beat Jermall, Saunders and Lemieux but they would all be dangerous fights. I don't think he can beat Canelo, Jacobs or GGG but he doesn't have to. He is a welterweight an the world best welterweight in my opinion.

        He's now a one-fight-a-year fighter.
        Yeah. Only in America!

None of my casual friends know who this guy is. I guess the whole "not needing a promoter" thing has worked out well for the 29 year old. Yep he's 29 and he's still a nobody.

          What a wasted career lmfao

Spence wipes his @ss with all welterweights but has tough one's against Porter and Crawford!

He beats Cotto at 154 by demolition!

            Him vs Lara is close

            Charlo beats him

            He beats down Hurd

He loses to Canelo by way of clear schooling in some competitive moments!

Gives a tough nite to GGG but loses!

            Beats Andrade

            Loses to elder Charlo

Beats Murata in a tough one

            Beats Lemule

            Beats down Saunders

Sucks that the other champs ar 147 are icing him from legacy fights!

I expect him to end his career 160 and being a 3 division champ but having atleast 3 losses!

I think the only person who could beat him at 147 is Terence Crawford. Maybe Thurman would have shot but Spence would have to be a decent favorite in that fight.

Spence have the height and frame to move up in the 154-160, he should do 154, fight a couple of no hopers like Liam Smith and Liam Williams, then fight Trout, then J-rouck, and probably on the way, get a belt or two. He is wasting his prime which is atrocious.

But anyway great thread my man. Greened.

                  He's 27.

However fighting once a year isn't working for him. He needs to be more active and needs a proper promoter.

I also wonder how long he can stay at 147. He has a big frame and I can't imagine he is having an easy time cutting down to 147.

I agree he needs to be more active.
He has some good fights at 147 Crawford, Thurman and Porter. But he needs them sooner rather than later because like you said he may outgrow the Welterweight division.
