This must have been a real 'American' local type of fight, because I've hardly even heard of these two guys except in passing, knowing that Williams was upper-cutted by Charlo awhile back.

horrible judging
What fight were the judges watching? It was close. A 95-95 draw or a 96-94 score for either fighter would've been fair. The lopsided scores just tells you the result was predetermined before the opening bell.Comment

J Rock lost that fight. It was a pretty good fight, Smith fought bravely, Williams got a decision he didn't deserve. I had Smith winning by only one round.Comment

Let it go man. People have selective memories around here. A guy's a dominant threat until he gets suddenly sparked, then he becomes a bum, and they dismiss the sparking and don't give credit.Comment

Williams needs to move to middle weight imo. He looks drained as **** at all his weigh ins and shows all the signs of a drained fighter in the ringComment

I thought Williams won tbh. Commentators werent giving his defence enough credit. Often Smith would unload with a combo, 1 or maybe 2 land, but they act like all if them were. At one point after a flurry at the end of the round the commentator said "all of them landed. On. The. Button"
Then they show a replay and they all were blocked or slipped except for 2 low blows lol.
That said, Williams needs to tighten up his defence badly as it appears his chin is definitely a problem. Too often he allowed Smith to open up on him without disrupting him at all. Ok he can slip some, but not only does it look bad from the outside, he also takes a few in there as well.
Offensively he was loose and inaccurate aswell in comparison to the Charlo fight.
Definitely needs to move up. He looked fatigued after 4 rounds imoComment

It's not that dude. It's that in the Al Haymon/Floyd era of ducking, we never have anything to go off of. Charlo and JRoc were both protected as hell on PBC, but JRoc looked more spectacular against bums than Charlo did. This led the LDBC fanbase to hype JRoc, even saying he would beat GGG. Then it looked like Charlo was ducking him, since he kept delaying his mandatory, so all people could go off of was the information they had, which was that JRoc looked more spectacular against bums than Charlo did, and Charlo didnt seem eager to fight him, so JRoc should probably be the favorite, and will probably beat him.
I know that was my hunch early on but eventually I didnt make a pick. They were so protected, and there was so little interest in both of them, that most people, myself included, didnt even care enough to check their boxrecs. For example I assumed they were the same size. In fact finally checking how big they were, and their reaches etc, the week of the fight is what made me eventually stop leaning towards JRoc and just not make a pick on it because I didnt have enough information about either of them.
So that is how it really went down. We had no information back then. But now, we do have more information, and it's starting to look like Charlo's win was overhyped. Why can't people evolve their opinions once new information comes to light? That's not the same as what you're claiming, that everyone is a bum once they lose. No, if JRoc went on to dominate top guys after Charlo beat him, then JRoc wouldn't be seen as a bum. Look at Lomachenko, who lost his 2nd pro fight, but is not regarded as a bum. Look at BHop who lost early in his career. People aren't saying JRoc is a bum because of one loss. They are saying it because in his last two fights, the only two fights where he's stepped up his competition level, he hasn't looked great. I still don't think he's a bum though, but he might not be an A-level boxer at this time, we'll have to see. We still need more information, and hopefully he can keep getting better. One thing we didn't know before the Charlo fight was if JRoc had a chin, and after getting knocked down by Charlo's jab (Trout didn't even get knocked down by his big right hand) and now getting buzzed by old Ishe Smith, that new piece of information, more than anything else, may be able to explain why people used to think JRoc was on the cusp of being elite, but now they have more doubts. If you don't have a chin, then that will change opinions about you at the top level very quickly, and it has nothing to do with just one loss. It's evolving your opinion based on new very important information, and whether or not you have a chin that can take punches at the top level of boxing is very important information in determining whether you are a top boxer at that level.Last edited by Boxing Logic; 11-19-2017, 01:36 PM.Comment
