Comments Thread For: McGuigan: Josh Taylor Made 'Huge Statement' With KO of Vazquez

Josh Taylor's "spectacular" stoppage win over Miguel Vazquez on Saturday night will make the boxing world take notice, according to promoter Barry McGuigan. The 26-year-old from Prestonpans extended his winning record to 11-0 with a ferocious body shot in the ninth round which rendered the experienced Mexican unable to beat the count.

That was a great performance by Taylor!

He found out there was a gulf between world and domestic level fighters in the early rounds and bridged that gulf with ease.

It's strange that a 5' 11" super lightweight with an amateur pedigree should be so fixated on getting in close and ****ing to the body, but by God, it works for him!

This guy is going places. The best thing about him is his focus, calmness, and the fact that everything is simple to him in his mind.

Think Taylor could pick up one of the vacated belts within the next 2 or 3 fights, I think he gives any one a tough fight now but a European title and another defence should stand him in good stead before going for world honours.

Hes huge, and spiteful as well, you can tell he loves a tearup. Even though he doesnt need to at all, he could easily just box on the outside and win UD's.
I like him to clean out the division & then move up to welter.

He gets a bit impatient against awkward fighters, was the same against Olvera, tries to force things. He wants the European next, should find him another fighter like Olvera and Vazquez after imo. Other than that, hes real good.

Was at the fight, Taylor is bigger than you would think in person and as far as I can see the world is his oyster, looks to have all the tools and the mentality to take over the Division. Remember this was only his 11th fight! Quality bloke too had zero problem stopping for photos and what not. Side note - during the post fight ringside interviews, Barry McGuigan turns and tells someone to shut up - that was me and my pals lol. He gave us some patter and took some pics after though so it's all good
