Comments Thread For: Duva: If Kovalev Wants WBA Belt Back, He'll Have to Fight Bivol

Even with Andre Ward retired and WBC champion Adonis Stevenson headed in a different direction, Kathy Duva sees a light heavyweight division full of attractive alternatives for Sergey Kovalev. If Kovalev can win back the WBO light heavyweight title by beating Vyacheslav Shabranskyy on November 25, Kovalev-Dmitry Bivol is a fan-friendly fight Kovalev's promoter would like to make.

Barrera deserves the shot not Kovalev.

Bivol and Arthur are the reason Ward retired early after winning a cheap stoppage with a low-blow and cheating referee who just happened to be of a similar racial background to one of the fighters. That being said, Kovalev is at the end of the road here anyway - Ward waited Kovalev out as long as possible, and now he's 34 and doesn't have many fights left - he might as well cash out.

34 is still not bad at all.

Kovalev has enough time to get his belts back here and then retire... perhaps even a fight with Stevenson in a "seniors" match.

I still can't understand why Barerra turned down a fight with Kovalev? That's an "in-house" fight that should've been easy to make!

You don't like to talk about the "race thing" when it involves advantages for **********. For example, Floyd lobbied the NSAC for only Black Referees, particularly Bayless. Mayweather even complained about Joe Cortez. Did you see Tony Weeks' instructions to Conor McGregor in the ring? Breaking up the fight when Conor hurt Floyd with a body shot right on the bottom of the cup... If you're going to say race is a factor in life, then also admit that race also favors Blacks in many cases also. Hell, 99% of Blacks voted for ***** lol - coincidence or racism? They voted for him because he's Black.
