He was offered the kovalev fight for 300k and a rematch for the same amount had he won the first fight, he didn't want it, he wanted to fight for a belt and more money, now kovalev is fighting whatshisname (that barrera already ko'd) for a belt and barrera is fighting valera for how much?

He was dropped and getting wobbled by Shabranskyy too

Good match-up, this will be a big step up for Bivol, we will see what he is all about, Barrera is a tough opponent

shabranskyy is a huge puncher though.
Gvozdyk got dropped heavily against tommy karpency which is far more concerning.

I'm not sure if that Gvozdyk knockdown was legit or flash, maybe he got caught off balance plus he recovered fast if I remember that fight well.

On the other hand, if my memory serves Barrera was surviving in Shabransky's fight and these shots were doing some visible damage to him. Both of them could win this fight by KO that day. So Barrera definitely can be stunned with power, he's definitely not packing granite and Bivol's chin is untested yet

Barrera fight with Valera seems interesting in the context of his possible bout with Bivol

From my hazy memory it was a pretty heavy KD, he was wobbling all over the place.

Whats going on with the nail btw? hes only had 2 fights this year and has no more fights lined up...he needs to be fighting 3-5 times per year, hes not a young prospect...

Your right, I hope Bivol isnt packing glass as im a big fan, also i think his KD ratio/his last fight is slightly misleading, he was arm and glove punching ALOT in his previous fight to his last. still....you can't exactly criticize him to much hes risen through the ranks quickly at a young age, as you can see by Barrera fighting a guy he already beat in his 5/6th pro fight...

I'm gunning for this fight to happen ASAP. I already see Bivol as having excellent fundamentals, it just remains to be seen how he holds up against pressure in terms of his chin, being put off his game or being out-boxed.
Having said that, Bivol comes across as having a tough and focused mentality, so I see him dominating at least the WBA belt for a while.
A win over Barrera would solidify his reputation, especially if it came via KO. Conversely, if the opposite happens, then every LHW would be instantly put on notice.

I suspect 'the nail' is having a tough time securing meaningful fights, (being ducked) with his last fight pretty much a ring in. I think Gvozdyk might be adopting a hardline stance (which he's entitled to) by taking either world title fights or paydays rather than fighting anymore Craig Bakers.

What I don't understand is he is under Top Rank's umbrella and managed by Egis Klimas, who, combined, have considerable influence and power. He is ranked highly across the board, with the WBO having him at #1 and NABO champ. (he's ranked in the top 5 elsewhere).

So I'm just as baffled as to why he isn't in the mix right now, with the division being open, and Gvozdyk not the only reputed heavy hander.

I'd say his best opportunity would be the winner of Kovalev - Shabranskyy for the vacant WBO strap, which he should be entitled to as a mandatory, or the winner of Beterbiev - Koelling for the IBF. (He's #4, Beterbiev is #2, Koelling #3, #1 is vacant but he holds their NABF belt).

he was fine with the $300K in the first fight, not so much in the rematch, if he had beating kovalev he want it a raise. I think it would had been fair to get more on a second fight. Then the bs alphabet soup make this kovalev fight a title one.
