  • Comments Thread For: McDonell vs. Solis Rematch Ends in No-Decision After Head Clash

Salle Medecin in Monte Carlo, Monaco - In what was his last contest in the weight class, WBA bantamweight champion Jamie McDonnell (29-2-1, 13 KOs) fought to a three round no-decision in his rematch with Liborio Solis (25-5-1, 11 KOs). Photo by Lawrence Lustig. An accident clash of heads opened up a bad cut above the left eye of McDonnell in the third round and it was quickly determined that he was unable to continue.

Really feel for Solis, the cut was caused by a head clash so a T-Draw was a fair call, but Solis was winning the early rounds IMO. He was essentially a round and a half away from winning a technical decision. After being robbed in the first fight he'll surely feel hard done by again. McDonnell will likely move to 122 now, so hopefully Solis is given a shot at either Ryan Burnett or the soon to be vacant "regular" WBA title.

Maybe for Solis, this was better than getting robbed again. McDonnell was gonna get the decision anyway if it went full 12.

Yep, Ryosuke Iwasa is there for the taking : Jamie being IBF champ at bantam should get that mando spot, I don't know what the IBF's policy is for former champions moving up tho ; I mean you usually have to fight in a eliminator but I figure they may give him the opportunity, unless Eddie Hearns pulls out his checkbook.

I also like him to fight Rey Vargas since Rey has already beat little bro in the UK.

Vargas would be too tough a fight for him IMO. Your right about Iwasa he's essentially just a belt holder as opposed to a legit champion. Iwasa fights New Year's Eve in Japan, providing he comes through, this would be a logical fight for McDonnell at 122.
