Comments Thread For: Lucas Matthysse vs. Tewa Kiram in Play For WBA 'Regular' Belt

The World Boxing Association has received a request, from Golden Boy Promotions' head matchmaker Robert Diaz, to order a showdown for the WBA "regular" welterweight title. The reason being, current WBA champion Keith Thurman has been out of the ring since March with injury and won't return until the first quarter of the year - and plans to take an easier fight. Diaz made the request on behalf of his fighter, Lucas Matthysse (38-4, 35 KO's), who is ranked third by the sanctioning body.

This is dumb. They should be petitioning to make it Matthysse-Garcia. That is a rematch people have wanted to see for years after the first fight was ruined by Matthysse getting laced in the eye early in the fight and suffering a very bad eye injury. On the other hand, I've never seen a single person ask to see Matthysse vs Kiram. Why does boxing continue to forgo matchups the fans want to see, and that would sell tickets, in order to make non-marketable matchups no fans want to see???

Matthysse-DSG II, then winner fights Victor Ortiz vs Amir Khan winner. That's what should happen.

WBA is an absolute joke. Peterson vacated the title giving them a perfect opportunity to scrap it, yet they sanction a match for it.

Is this a vacant title fight? Why the f#ck is the WBA making more title holders if they are trying to get to one? Lol these mfers.

I mean just make the winner the mandatory. Same difference without a bs title.

Oh yeah silly me no bs extra title no fees.

Sadly, you're too optimistic. Boxing isn't run like a sport, the contenders don't have to fight each other to get to a title shot anymore. For all this talk of boxing having a great year, we're still in a position where the best prime fighters are not fighting each other at the correct times.

No one wanted to see Gonzalez/Rungvisai and look what happened there. Seen a lot of people say good things about Kiram, aint seen himself myself, threw away my VHS player a long time ago.
