Comments Thread For: Jacobs: Arias Doesn't Believe Things He's Saying; He's a Weirdo!

Daniel Jacobs was so bewildered by some of the things Luis Arias was saying Friday, the former middleweight champion muted his phone during parts of a conference call to promote their November 11 fight. The unbeaten Arias called Jacobs "overrated," contended that the cancer survivor was never a legitimate world champion, degraded his first-round stoppage of Peter Quillin and other noteworthy wins on Jacobs' record, and claimed Brooklyn's Jacobs has benefited from excessive attention paid to him by the New York media. As perplexing as some of Arias' assertions might've been, Jacobs (32-2, 29 KOs) wasn't particularly surprised the confident Milwaukee native came at him nearly a month after Arias (18-0, 9 KOs) talked trash throughout the press conference to officially announce their fight.

Arias is lying? Let's examine what Arias has claimed:

1- Jacobs is getting overrated due to his competitive loss against GGG, he's a good fighter, but people are treating him like he won the fight. = This statement seems true to me.

2- Jacobs has never been a legitimate champion. = This is also true, he was knocked out by Pirog for a vacant title, and his WBA belt was just a glorified mandatory position. Everyone knows GGG was the real, or super as the organization calls it, WBA champion. And, GGG beat Jacobs for the real title, meaning he never truly was a world champion.

Now, I understand there may be more that Arias has said that I'm not aware of, and maybe he's a liar. I don't know the guy, but from the stuff I've seen, he's not lying, but he may be getting under Jacobs skin.

Atlas says Jacobs is overrated. He's not. He's the second best middleweight in the world untill someone proves otherwise. I still have a tiny bit of doubt about his chin but other than that he's a very good fighter.

I have no idea what he said about cancer. I've only read some quotes from Arias on this website.

I'm sure he has said more stuff, and Jacobs may be referring to something else Arias may have said, I'm just not familiar with the alleged lies.

What lies, Danny? Arias says Jacobs is overrated because he is getting so much credit for doing better than expected vs Golovkin and snapping Golovkins KO streak. He feels Jacobs is getting too much credit for a fight he lost. Either way it’s an opinion not a lie. He says Jacobs was never a legit champ. This is true. Jacobs lost to Pirog for the vacant WBO belt, and more recently Jacobs was the regular WBA champ which is another way of saying he was the mandatory contender to the WBA Super Champ Golovkin. So Arias was correct and that definitely wasn’t a lie. On the contrary, it seems if anyone is tells outright lies it is Jacobs himself. Jacobs said, among other things “all the guys he beat had losing records...”. That was a dubious comment there from Jacobs. Literally pulled it right out of his a$$. A quick glance at each fighters BoxRec shows us that Arias has fought 2 fighters who had losing records at the time of the fight. Jacobs, by comparison, has fought 5 fighters who had losing records at the time of the fight. So Jacobs has me confused on why he is saying Arias is lying and I’m even more confused why Jacobs would ever make that bizarre comment about Arias having only beaten guys with losing records
