Comments Thread For: Froch To Joshua Fight Critics: The Stoppage Was NOT Premature!

Anthony Joshua retained his WBA, IBO and IBF heavyweight titles despite suffering a suspected broken nose during the early stages of a 10th-round stoppage win over a bloodied Carlos Takam in Cardiff. Joshua's flawless professional record now stands at 20 victories and as many knockouts, but this was not a display to stand alongside his statement triumph over the great Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley in April.

Froch literally has to slip himself into everything. In his first fight with Grove that was stopped early and so was tonight! AJ was clearly winning but tonight was stopped too early.

Way to early. Froch knows this. He was rocked but was slipping some to but not out on his feet.

Was not the worst stoppage in the world.

Takam had taken many even if only majority glancing shots in a row without much firing back and had shown some survival instincts along with some obvious stiffened legs(not bambi on ice but still). He was literally 2 more connecting punches away from being downed...all the signs were there..no dispute to be had over this.

AJ dominated this fight but it was far from a perfect performance- AJ is still rather static and freezes in close range when his opponent comes forward to take shots on gloves or on the turn/roll and then leaves himself open to counters when he starts swinging with lead hooks too close in the pocket.

The fight was kind of what I expected AJ struggling to land on a small, game and more mobile contender..whilst looking stiff and frustrated at times.

His last 2 fights are probably the best things that could happen to him in terms of learning...better to experience the difficulties now than later down the line.

He should keep Takam on the payroll for sparring...will be good prep for any other smaller fighters he may face in the future. And help him improve his distance and movement issues.

Article's keep saying 12 days notice to Takam for the fight almost as if he wasn't in training for it- but in reality they paid him from the moment the Pulev fight was signed to be in training and ready should anything happen to Pulev.

Definitely a stoppage you have to scratch your head at. O well..on to Wilder vs AJ if Wilder gets past Stiverne.
