It’s a win-win for Golden Boy Promotions. Cotto gets a relatively low risk opponent and rides off into the sunset a champ, Ali gets the biggest purse to date and the WBO belt will become vacant after Cotto retires. The WBO belt would’ve all but been purchased for other GBP fighters to fight for.
