  • Comments Thread For: Tete: I Wanted Ryan Burnett, But He Opted For The Easy Route!

ZOLANI Tete is not bothered by the new corner for his upcoming maiden WBO bantamweight title clash arguing that the current trainers handling him were serving as assistants when chief trainer Loyiso Mtya was calling the shots. The 29-year-old South African southpaw is deep in camp preparing for the first defence against compatriot Siboniso Gonya on November 18.

Tete and Burnett is a fight I like a lot.

Nery should be stripped of his title, the way drug cheats face no consequences is a disgrace to the sport.

Guy just won a title (& a second one now)...give him a few minutes & he'll probably win yours too.

Big fan of Burnett & I wouldn't hate seeing him keep it moving forward collecting belts. Too few lil guys make it a priority to even fight other title holders typically so a lil guy who won all the titles is always gonna put himself on the map.

Personally I'd rather see Burnett get a couple defenses for experiences vs non-title holders rather than go for a clean swipe of all the titles out of the gate, but sh^t if he's willing let him try. I think dude is talented & he's not gonna be easily defeated & the more experience he gets the harder he'll be to beat so maybe these tip top guys should be trying to get him in the ring sooner rather than later.

I don't see any reason to not buy his Mexican meat story. Thats been a problem with a lot of athletes lately & plenty of cats have been getting a no fault decision with that & therefore not suspended or punished in anyway.

Nery being given the benefit of the doubt is standard. And my assumption is there are lesser positives for this that suggest it was a trace of this substance & greater positives with more than a trace that suggest that one was using this substance more seriously & for nefarious reasons.

Think hes got his sights set on consolidating the WBA next. Just checked The Ring rankings and they have McDonnell inconceivably ranked higher than Burnett.

Tetes gunna be a difficult fight to make though, Tete being with Warren, like to see it though.

            Yea? Damn. Respect to Burnett.

I suspect if he's this into winning all these belts this early they will find a way to get Tete in there too...but I can be an optimist about making fights between rival networks/promoters sometimes so wtf do I know. I do think the UK promoters are better at finding common ground with making fights + not as hard headed/stubborn & will let a guy go over there or come over here for one fight without commanding options as often as US promoters seem to so they got that going for them in the UK it would seem.

Haha Hearn and Warren got something going on that's every bit as bad as what US promoters have, maybe worse. Both more than happy to work with US promoters, but if its a British title eliminator the toys get thrown out the pram.

Everyone who gets busted for PEDs always has some aww shucks bullshit story. Nobody, among the hundreds of guys who have been caught, has ever taken them intentionally. Funny, that.

Yea I understand, but that doesn't mean that Mexican cattle guys aren't feeding their livestock banned substances that end up in Mexicans purchased meat from the grocery store & ingested. And in this case, & many others, dinging the positive on OST testing via accidental usage that is usually given a no fault finding by the testers & no punishment is given. This might be new to you & look sketchy to you, but this is standard in other PED testing sports its such a big problem with Mexican cattle ranchers.

I do think Warren may be more willing to let Tete fight away than someone like Yarde, since Tete doesn't really make any money and he's skilled enough that you'd fancy him to beat pretty much anyone on his day. It's a similar situation to when he let Skeete go and face Eggington on a Matchroom show. He could see it as an opportunity to embarrass Hearn
