andrea lost the will to fight on. fighting kovalev twice in a row will do that to you.

business. As a title fight, this is a joke
Rewatch the fight again, on mute, and this time dont let Max, Jim, and Roy insert assumptions into your head, like "Kovalev was more tired. Kovalev was going to lose anyway. Kovalev was taking deeper breaths in the corner as if he was exhausted."

Turns out, Kovalev was doing that on purpose as part of heart rate exercises he was taught to do in the corner to lower his heart rate. GGG does the same thing, and guess what, 3 rounds into Canelo-GGG, Roy Jones Jr. literally said, "this reminds me of Kovalev-Ward, GGG is breathing really hard already."But how did that turn out? GGG was the one who came on strong later, not Canelo. That proves Roy (and the rest of the team in Kov-Ward II) had no idea what they were watching during Kov-Ward II, and made false assumptions that led them to paint an inaccurate portrait of what was happening in the fight. Based on his own ignorance of what he was watching, Roy (and Max and Jim) predicted that Kovalev was going to be the one to fade late in the fight, but just like he got it wrong with GGG-Canelo, he may have gotten it wrong with Kovalev-Ward too. These ignorant know-it-all commentators make all these assumptions without even understanding what they're watching, in this case the INTENTIONAL deep breathing that Eastern European boxers are taught to do, and then they transfer their assumptions onto the viewers, who eat it up like fools.

If you watch it on mute, and look at who is actually throwing punches before all the fouls start, it's Kovalev. If you look at who is carrying the weight better, it appears to be Kovalev. Ward looked stronger than normal, yes, but that's because he added way more muscle, and you can tell it was affecting his stamina. In reality, Robert Byrd may have saved Ward, not Kovalev, because when you watch it on mute, you will see that it was actually Ward who was having trouble pacing himself with all the extra muscle, and that it was actually Ward who likely would have gassed badly late in the fight. And gassing badly against Kovalev is a recipe for disaster.

But, thanks to Ward having a corrupt ref on his side, we will never truly know what would have happened. Either Ward or Kovalev got robbed of a true career-defining victory, and fans got robbed of a true outcome. Why would anyone celebrate that? It's what's wrong with boxing. But no, Kovalev did not get "drubbed." He got caught with one real nice right hand after a whole bunch of fouls, but never went down once, and was recovering until Ward hit him repeatedly in the balls, which is PROVEN with video evidence you just have to look on youtube etc. Stop defending boxing corruption - none of us know the true outcome of that fight. But other than the right hand and the fouls, it was a pretty even fight, although I had Kovalev ahead.

I hadn’t heard that about the breathing exercises. We will have to agree to disagree on what transpired in the second fight, as I saw Ward clearly winning the rounds and Kovalev was ready to be knocked out after that right hand. There were some unintentional low blows but Kovalev was already fully cooked. I expect Kovalev to come back and win the WBO title but I think a lot of the Tyson-esque fear factor has evaporated and he will struggle with the remaining elites of the division.

lol! The real reason Ward retired is that he wouldn’t make anything close to the $7m he made in the second Kovalev fight. Huge drops in pay without major drops in risk will do that to you. Most of us would do the same if we were in his shoes.
