  • Comments Thread For: Andrade's Promoters Delighted He Outdrew HBO's Main Event

White Plains, NY/Philadelphia, PA -- Demetrius Andrade, two-time and undefeated world champion, showed that he has the drawing power to go along with his unquestioned ring talent as his bout with undefeated Alantez Fox outdrew both the main event and opening bouts in the ratings last Saturday night by over 90,000 viewers on HBO Boxing After Dark.

They are reading way too much into this. Andrade's fight was on primetime on the west coast, but the main event was not on until midnight. That's probably the real reason. They should look at the history of Andrade's ratings, not one fight. Otherwise, HBO may make the mistake of overpaying another unpopular boxer to fight the Edwin Rodriguez's of the world, and that would not be good for HBO Boxing, the sport at large, or its fans.

I do, however, hope to see Andrade, and every other boxer with top end talent, fight elite opponents in their next fights, and then their immediate next fights after that, and then their immediate next fights after that (provided enough rest is taken between fights that prove difficult). This propaganda article aside, there is no interest in watching Andrade fight non-A-level opponents, but there IS interest in watching top end talents, even the boring ones, fight other top end talents. Because top end opponents can force boring boxers to fight in entertaining fights. And if you do that enough in succession, then eventually you become known as an entertaining boxer yourself, and lose the "boring" label, until such time as you fight another easy opponent, and people remember again that your style is not the kind that can bring action to a mismatch.

But I guarantee you, if you put Lara in with prime GGG, that would have been an entertaining action fight until Lara got knocked out. So as long as they put Andrade in with Deryvanchenko, Jermall Charlo, Danny Jacobs, or David Lemieux, the odds are good of getting a good fight. But anything short of that is a waste of HBO's budget.

Too bad Boo Boo had a terrible, boring performance against a C+\B- opponent.

100% on the time difference to the East Coast. Also, you can also say that Andrade's fight was lackluster enough that people did not want to stick around for the rest of the show.

How was it terrible? he dominated the fight Andrade is a natural counter puncher so its hard to look good against a guy like that especially with the height advantage Fox had. Like when Pacquiao fought Clottey he didn't give him much to work with.

He dominated a C level fighter who tore his rotator cuff in the 1st round. Congratulations doo doo.

Or maybe the fight was so boring that people decided they had enough boxing for the night

Exactly, his Promoters are totally dumb and HBO will look at this and see people switching off because he's a boring fighter and not rush to make him a headline guy in the future.

The sooner HBO get rid of Steve Nelson the better.

I watch Boxing to be entertained, not put to sleep and i'd be happy if guys like Lara and Andrade never appeared on television again.
